The Round Bute Race
for the prestigious
Marquis of Bute Trophy
The Isle of Bute Sailing Club will be open on the Friday evening before Race Day for skippers
and crew. The clubhouse will also be open for most of Race Day itself.

| Start Line: | From the Mast on the Clubhouse balcony to the large Admiralty Buoy ('The Plug') due east of the Clubhouse. Start time is 0930 hours for all classes. |
| Course: | This year the decision to race either northabout or southabout the island will be taken 1 hour before the start of the race, so please contact either the Clubhouse (Channel 37 Call sign 'Bute Race Control'), mobile telephone 0783 763 5668 or in person. The Start and Finish line will be a line from the mast in front of the Start Hut at the Clubhouse to the Plug (Admiralty Buoy in the middle of Rothesay Bay) taking the Start mark ('The Plug') to Starboard, both at the start AND finish. If the race starts southabout, yachts should finish with The Plug to portside. There will be a 15 min, 10 min, 5 min and Start Gun. Yachts can go through either Kyle at the North End and can pass either side of Inchmarnock island. |
| Time Limit: | If conditions are particularly calm, the race may be stopped at a line to be decided on the day - yachts to keep a listening watch on Channel 37. If the first yacht has not passed the finishing line by 1900 hours, the race will be abandoned. |
| Communication: | The Clubhouse can be contacted on VHF Channel 37 (Call Sign 'Bute Race Control') or on mobile 0783 763 5668. It would be appreciated if yachts could contact the clubhouse as they approach Bogany Buoy, or Adbeg Point, to alert the Race Officer of their arrival. |

| Rules: | Races will be governed by Racing Rules of Sailing. The Round Bute Race Committee is made up of Betty Taylor (Commodore), Ronnie Taylor (Rear Commodore) and the Race Officer. Any decsion of the Round Bute Race Committee is final. Race protests must be lodged with the Race Committee within 30 minutes of the protesting boat finishing. If the race is postponed for any reason, it will e re-run at 0930 hours on the following day, Sunday. If the Race is cancelled for any reason, refunds or credits for entry fees will NOT be made. If any boat does not have a CYCA Handicap, a temporary handicap will be allocated by the Race Committee. Local boats are defined as spending the majority of the 2004 season berthed or moored at the Isle of Bute. |

| Classes: | Class 1: CYCA 15 min/hr and under Class 2: CYCA 15.25 to 18.5 min/hr Class 3: CYCA 18.75 min/hr and over Class 4: Restricted Sail Class - any CYCA handicap without spinnakers, ghosters etc There will be trophies for 1st in each Class and prizes for 2nd in each Class. The boat with the fastest overall corrected time will be presented with the prestigious Marquis of Bute Trophy. In addition there is also a trophy for the highest placed local boat. |

| Conditions of Entry: | The organising Club and their representatives disclaim any and every responsibility for loss, damage, injury or inconvenience to persons, yachts or associated objects howsoever arising, directly or indirectly, ashore or afloat, from their policy, rules or ruling during racing and related activities. Each yacht must have adequate Third Party and Passenger insurance. The current recommendation is at least £1,000,000 |
